What is “Yaoi Day,” you may ask?
August 1st is celebrated as “Yaoi Day” because when you write “801 “in Japanese, it can be read as “Yaoi,” which is a Japanese genre of fiction that features romantic or sexual relationships between male characters.
I am heavily influenced by Japanese BL (the more current term for “Yaoi”), and I have many fond memories of enjoying the day with my fellow anime and manga fans.
