Manhwa Review | You Jin by Fujoking

About:

Warning:

There will be spoilers for the series You Jin.

Trigger Warning: There may be references to sexual assault, pedophilia, and dubious consent, as it appears in the manhwa.

Synopsis:

You Jin isn't the brightest bulb in the box, but even he finds it a bit weird when his female childhood friend Lee Sejin turns up on his doorstep, claiming to have contracted a potentially fatal disease with the convenient side effect of switching his gender. Sejin has been living his life as a man since the change but has run into some trouble with his gaggle of girlfriends. So he begs Jin to take him in until he can figure out what to do with his life moving forward. Of course, Jin is suspicious but lets Sejin stay with him all the same.

Once Sejin establishes himself in Jin's life, he asks him for one more favor: help him grant his last wish. Naturally, Jin isn't unwilling to help until Sejin tries to kiss him. As it turns out, Sejin's last wish is a bit more than Jin realized. How far is Jin willing to go to help a childhood friend, if that even is who this person actually is?

Review:

First off, let me say: if you haven't read anything from , I implore you. Please do. One of the best artists out there, which leads me to admit that I am 100% biased. I love ‘s work so much, and this is no exception. As always, every dude is beyond attractive. My ideal type is any type that is drawn by Fujoking. Enough of that, though. I once again just want to warn you that this will not be a teardown, so if that was what you were hoping for, you would probably be disappointed. Now, on to why I love this manhwa so much:

Cute, but airheaded bottoms are everything, and You Jin is at the top of that list. He reminds me a lot of Hye-sung from Love is an Illusion!, which is another BL that I absolutely adore. He is hilariously dumb, often getting words wrong, dramatically fainting to avoid awkward situations, and just being a menace. I love him so much. It is worth noting that he is super whiny. Personally, I enjoy that, but if you aren't a fan of whiny leads, this may be a miss.

On the other end of the spectrum, there is Se-oh. He is daddy material through and through. He is calm and calculating but warm, obsessive, and loving when he needs to be. Again, he reminds me of Dojin from Love is an Illusion!. Needless to say, I love him, and he is my type. The only downside is the way he tricks Jin into being with him. Pretending he is his cousin turned into a man is just really weird. Especially when it seemed he kept up the act for a while even after it was clear that Jin had no idea he was lying. I also found it weird how quickly Jin gets over this revelation. I know Jin is meant to be a little dumb, but this felt a bit overkill to me. It is still an entertaining premise, though, and for this to be such a short series, I can see why some conflicts were worked through a bit faster than one would typically expect.

Finally, let's talk about the length. It is extremely short, which is super unfortunate. I wish I could have lived in this world a little longer because I fell heavy for Se-oh and Jin. I also fell in love with the sub couple, especially since Soo-young turned out to be a big bottom, which I love and wish we had more of, and Myung-han was so gorgeous. Thankfully, though, Fujoking is a beast and has lots of ongoing work and other finished pieces I can revisit alongside You Jin – I actually reviewed an omegaverse anthology Fujoking took part in called Seven Days of Lust. As usual, Fujoking kills it there, too.

Results:

I think it goes without saying that I love this. It is short, sexy, and fun. What more could you really want from a smexy BL series? Well, other than more of it, of course. I highly recommend it, no questions asked. I can't wait to finish Fujoking‘s other works, too, so I can gush over them. I hope you'll check them out!
